Kat Von D Lolita Dupe!?

If you're anything like me, then you get disgustingly excited and happy hearing about a dupe for that expensive lippie that you've been drooling over! I am obsessed with dupethat's Instagram page for this reason exactly. There is something so satisfying about saving $$$ on products! When I saw the comparison of Kat Von D's Lolita + NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede in Soft Spoken - I was so intrigued. I got Lolita as a Birthday gift last year, so I was so excited to go out and purchase Soft Spoken for $8.00 at the drugstore.

NYX - Soft Spoken $8.00
 Kat Von D - Lolita $24.00

As it's pretty obvious from there photos, Lolita dries quite a bit darker than Soft Spoken. They look practically identical when swatching and applying on the lips, but once it dries, it looks much darker. I LOVE both these lip shades and how they apply. Neither of them felt cakey or heavy on the lips, and while the shades dry differently, they are equally as beautiful! And that price comparison is everything.

At Home Pamper Routine

If you were to ask yourself how often you relax and take time for yourself, what would you say? I feel so frequently there aren't enough hours in a day. We get exhausted, we get bogged down. I find when I'm feeling that way it's incredibly important to create a spare hour to treat yourself to a little "you" time. My absolute favourite way to relax and wind down is with a face mask, a hot bath full of bubbles and yummy bath salts, acoustic covers on Spotify and either a hot cup of tea or a glass of red wine, depending on the day and time of course!

My Pamper Routine:

a) I like to get my bath started right away so that while the tub is filling I apply my face mask. I start with filling the tub with water and then I load it up with bubbles! Currently I'm using (and almost out of) the Thymes Essential Aloa Vera Bubble Bath in French Lavender - this stuff smells UNREAL. Then I add the bath salts. I use the Ginseng and Indian Rose Vitality Bath Salts by Bath Retreat Spa. Not only does this smell ahhh-mazing but it leaves my skin feeling cleansed and refreshed.

b) With the tub filling, and my skin freshly cleansed, I'm ready for a face mask! I've been trying a few newbies lately and fell in love with the L'Oreal Pure-Clay Mask (I like the Detox & Brighten Treatment) This mask addresses your dull, tired skin to reveal a purified, even and radiant complexion, leaving your skin with a healthy brighter glow. It also detoxified the skin and cleanses the pores, getting rid of dirt, dust and pollution. Leave on for 15 minutes.

c) Time to scrub! Bath Retreat Spa also makes the yummiest Sugar Scrub (same scent as the bath salts) The scent is equally amazing (to sum it up it smells like a real SPA) and the scrub is nice and gentle on the skin but gets rid of all the yucky dead stuff. It's enriched with ginseng and Indian rose extracts, and vitamins A and E.

d)
 Soak.
   Relax. Refresh.
Reconnect.
Do not over think life (this is the important one)

e) Time to moisturize!! Once I'm all towelled off and curled up in my cozies, I start with skin care. I start with the First Aid Facial Radiance Pads to tone and brighten. Followed by their Ultra Repair Cream for Dry Parched Skin. In the evenings I like to really lather this stuff on and leave to soak in over night to keep my skin nice and hydrated. I've been loving using the Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil around my eyes to add moisture. When you have dry skin like me, all steps are really about adding hydration to the skin.

f) Now that the colder weather is here, my lips are following in my skins footsteps and getting incredibly dry. To get of any dryness and flaking on the lips I use a lip scrub. Been loving the Hanalei Sugar Scrub that I got in one of my old Ipsy Glam bags lately as it smells like HEAVEN. Once my lips are scrubbed and looking fresh, I top it off with a lip balm.

g) Repeat step D.

Mermaid Vibes

What do you do on a rainy Tuesday morning? You got it, BLOG. Although I always post details of what makeup products I'm wearing on my Instagram (you can find me at scmakeupartistry) I find I don't go into full details on the steps I take when applying them. Personally I hate typing on a phone screen it literally drives me madddd, so while I update the blog this week with a ton of past makeup looks and videos, I will be including more details that you can't find on my Instagram! Bare with me while I post 6,700 photos of my face  :)

MERMAID VIBES

MAKEUP DETAILS:

Face: Primed with Sephora After Glow Primer. This stuff is amazing for creating a luminous glow underneath your foundation OR mixed in with your foundation. So obsessed! Followed by Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Foundation applied with a damp Real Techniques sponge. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer to conceal and brighten the under eye. Laura Mercier Translucent Powder applied over the areas I applied my concealer to set and bake. I have really dry skin so I don't like to let the powder sit too long on my skin, I typically wait only a minute max where I know a lot of people will let their powder sit on their skin for 5 minutes +. To cream contour my skin I used the darkest brown shade in the Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Colour Correcting palette and applied to my forehead, sides of my nose and cheeks. To blend it out I used my RT sponge again. Then using my Bahama Mama by the Balm I went in over the cream contour to set and define the contour. The most bomb highlight ever comes from the Anastasia Beverly Hills That Glow Kit in Sunburst!

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Soft Brown applied with a thin angled brush. To blend the product in I used a small spoolie and then set with a tiny bit of the clear brow gel from ABH

Eyes: I always prime my eyelids with a tiny bit of concealer because I also love how it cancels out the redness on my eyelids and creates a flawless finish. I set with a tiny bit of my Rimmel Stay Matte powder and then go in with my shadows. I used the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Sugar Frost as my base colour and applied it right from the stick then blended it out with my fingers. Then I took The Balm Shady Lady Palette (favourite for fresh summer looks) and used Jet Setting Jennifer on the lid, also applied with my fingers followed by All About Alex in the crease, outer corners and lower lash line.  Jealous Jordan on the outer V. Both applied with fluffy crease brushes and a lot of blending. Lashes are Ardell Lashes in Double Wispies with duo eyelash glue. For mascara I used the Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Washable mascara for the top lashes and Mac Extended Play. Seriously the best bottom lash mascara ever!

Lips: First I applied Motives Nice, which was a bit TOO light for the look I was going for, so I dapped Revlon Primrose over top and then took Sunburst from the That Glow palette and applied it on the center of my lips. I have seen Amrezy applying her highlight over her lips on snapchat and just LOVED IT but had never thought to personally try it, so I was totally over the moon when it looked incredibly gorgeous. Only down fall was once it dried it looked a bit cakey but amazing for photos.

Let me know what you guys think! I personally loved this look because it was giving me glowy mermaid vibes and lets face it... who doesn't want to be a mermaid?

Lipstick Of The Week

So I do a lot of social media browsing on my down times and I absolutely love looking at other artists Instagrams, reading blogs and watching Youtube videos. I stumbled across Emily (emilynoel83 on Instagram) and I  absolutely loved that she posts her "lipstick of the week" I wear lipstick every single day unless I don't leave the house which is mostly likely to happen at least one a week because lets face it, this girl is a homebody. So I thought it would be fun to share weekly what I've been wearing. I'm combing last week with this week because I've been at home sick in bed for two days (and going stir crazy - so HELLO blogging in my pajamas with hot tea and a large blankie)

Feb Faves!

Well... it's been a hot minute since I popped onto this little blog of mine and shared any new goodies! I saw browsing Instagram this morning over morning coffee as I always do and saw a few February Favourites posts so I thought I would jump on the band wagon and here we are!

Tarte Cosmetics - Tartelette In Bloom Palette

This palette is literally every neutral makeup lovers dream. This palette comes with 12 incredibly beautifully pigmented shadows. Honestly it's the only palette you would need in your collection. So many versatile makeup looks are available to create with the range from shimmer shadows, to mattes and lights to darks. And the packaging, as always from Tarte, is literally the cutest

Maybelline - Master Prime Blur + Illuminate

I'm addicted to trying new primers. Especially ones that have the word "Illuminate" in the name/and or description AND ones that are affordable. Since I have extremely dry skin I always want products that help make my skin glow and stay hydrated. This primer does both those things wonderfully and wears really well for long periods of time under my foundation

Marc Jacobs Beauty - Remarcable Foundation

How can I sum up my love for this foundation? It's EVERYTHING. Actually no, I'm lying. It's not everything because the price tag on this babe is ridiculous. Running at 69.00 per bottle. The bright side to this is that this foundation is extremely full coverage so you need very very little, so this bottle will definitely last you a while. It applies so smoothly and doesn't dry out my skin even with it's thicker formula. Hands down favourite foundation I have ever used.

Tarte Cosmetics - Tartiest Gel Liner

I love black gel liner and I typically use Maybelline Gel Liner, which I do still love but I had seen a lot on this product online and I really wanted to see if it was worth the hype. It is. The black is an intense black and applies really easily with the little brush it comes with. Down side is the tube. I don't understand it. Why Tarte? Why? I waste so much freaking product this way. For this reason, although it is in my favourites because I love it - I will probably stick to my Maybelline which comes in a pot

Colourpop Cosmetics - Ultra Matte Lip in Tulle

I'm obsessed with all of Colourpops Matte lippies, 95% of the time I'm wearing one of their shades. I love how long wearing they are on the lips and how comfortable they are (for a matte lippie anyways) but lately Tulle has been my #1 go to shade for evening wear. It's a dusty mauve burgundy shade. Looooove

Luxie Beauty - JadeyWadey180 Glam Set

So Jade is one of my favourite beauty bloggers and I will admit I bought these brushes 50% based on that and 50% based on the freaking Nose Perfector Face Brush (I'm addicted to nose contouring) because her photos and videos looked incredible, I wasn't sure what to expect but I love all 3 brushes that came in this set. They are all dual ended. The nose perfector is amazing to apply cream contour with one end, and blend out with the other. The Chisler has a buffer and a large fan brush, I apply my bronzer with the fan side and foundation with the buffing end (my least favourite of the 6 options) The Shaper is a huge staple in my brush collection as I use one end to apply my concealer, and the other end to apply my powders

Gold Glow

Hello, lovers!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

There's nothing I love more than a golden smokey eye. I know this is something you hear from me all the time believe me when I say this - that will never change! Warm tones in the crease with a pop of golden glow on the lid and a soft smoked out corner is so complimentary on all skin tones and eye shapes and also pairs so well with any colour of lipstick you like! When my sister was in town over the holidays we decided to create that exact look with 4 different lip shades to showcase just how well a glossy nude, matte soft pink, red + berry wears {really the options are ENLDESS} but we decided to stick with the classics

The Lip Combos:
Top left to bottom right

1. Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brûlée topped with Nars Turkish Delight
2. Colourpop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip in Shimmy
3. Sephora Lip Stain in 01
4. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen

(sooo wishing I would have used flash for the rest of the photos!)

The eyes:

This eye look was so easy to achieve, using only 3 eyeshadows and a gorgeous pair of drugstore lashes. You can jazz it up for an evening look with a bold red or berry or keep it daytime appropriate with a soft nude or pink! So versatile. So easy.

TRANSITION SHADE: Mac Soft Brown
OUTER CORNER: Nars Galapagos

LASHES: Ardell Demi Wispies
