Fall Favorites

I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers
- L.M. Montgomery

Happy October 1st, fellow fall obsess-ee’s! You and I both know this is the very best time of year… Until Christmas rolls around. Then game over for everyone because you know I will drag you out to every single Christmas event (even in -25 weather, you are coming with me to watch the Santa Claus parade. Just ask my husband. Lucky man.)

When the leaves start changing colours, oversized sweaters and knee high boots resurface, HALLOWEEN & all pumpkin everything. I’m totally in my happy place. This quote says IT ALL:
“I love sweater season. Am I wearing a bra? Who knows. Am I wearing what I wore to bed under it? Maybe.”

When I watched the original video of this tag by Jaclyn Hill I was super excited to participate. So I curled up in my office, threw on Hocus Pocus and had to reaaaally put in the work to narrow down my answers

Favourite Fall Candle
Sweater Weather from Bath & Body Works. YUM!
Close second: Pumpkin Brûlée by Yankee Candle

Favourite Lip Colour
Mac’s Rebel… Forever and always my fall love!

Favourite Drink
Keeping it the most basic here - I love Pumpkin Spiced Lattes from Starbucks
If we’re talking adult beverages… Red wine, always. Malbec, please + thanks!

Favourite Blush
Mac Gingerly

Favourite Clothing Item
Plaid Blanket Scarfs. Anything that I can generously drape all around my body is a must have in my books! Cozy is the name of the game

Favourite Movie
Easiest question of them all. HALLOWEENTOWN. I live for this movie. My nephews are coming over this weekend to help me decorate for Halloween and I can’t wait to finally watch it

Favourite TV Show
Probably Empire. Cookie is my spirit animal.
I’m watching Scandal on Netflix right now and once I get all caught up I know I will be anticipating new episodes on Thursday nights

Favourite Thanksgiving Food
My Papa’s stuffing! My favourite of all the goodies on the table at turkey dinners. Also my Mother In Law makes this bomb veggie casserole type dish that is one of the yummiest things ever

Favourite Halloween Costume
I was a gypsy when I was super young, like REALLY YOUNG, like when I lived on Vancouver Island young, so before Kindergarten and I remember it so clearly. It was and always will be my favourite.

...Should we all just take a moment of silence to digest how handsome my Dad is?

And that my friends wraps up the FALL TAG. I have big plans this month for lots of Halloween looks! I posted my quick Pop Art look on my Instagram yesterday and I have 3 other for sure looks in the works so stay tuned for those!

Sweat Proof Makeup

I guess I shouldn’t be overly surprised between wedding planning and wedding appointments that I have completely forgotten about this blog. I really enjoy writing and I really enjoy makeup so I’m hoping to be feeling more inspired and spending more of my down time here.

This summer has been crazy and the weather even crazier. The heat has hit us hard and it was basically unbearable to find ways to beat the heat. I decided the best thing for my makeup game was to skip almost all eye makeup and focus on skin prep and create an {almost} flawless glowing face for day to day.

Prep:
After I wash my face - I’m currently using First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Wash and I’m obsessed. - I moisturize my skin and let that soak in for up to 30 minutes before applying my makeup. I then take my Smashbox Water Primer and doust my skin in it. I have extremely dry skin so I find I need to take a lot of steps to continue to keep my skin feeling full of moisturize.

Products:
To conceal my pores and prime my skin for foundation I have been looooving NYX Pore Filler. I then use my damp beauty blender to apply my foundation. Currently I’m using Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation which gives me skin a really soft all over glow. This foundation is pricey but worth it. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative for a luminous foundation I would recommend trying L’Oreal Lumi!

To conceal my dark circles I have been using Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser in Brightening and to conceal and highlight I have been using the same Age Rewind Concealer in Fair. To set my concealer I have met my HOLY GRAIL Translucent Powder by Laura Mercier that literally gives an airbrush affect. I have been baking my powder over top of all the areas I conceal and highlight for about 1-2 minutes and then dusting it off with a fan brush. Your concealer will not budge throughout the day no matter what your activities are, and no matter how hot the heat is. This stuff is bulletproof! Yasss. I have been cream contouring with the Laura Mercier Contour Palette as I mentioned before I have dry skin. If you have oily skin I would suggest using powders to contour and bronze on the hot days. I have been skipping blush and just bathing in highlighter. My new favourite is the limited edition Sephora x Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill highlighter in Champagne Pop! I put this on the tops of cheeks and up towards my temples, down the bridge of my nose, on my cupids bow and a touch on the chin.

Set:
To set everything on the skin you will need a good setting spray. In the past I have used the Urban Decay Setting Sprays and they were amazing! Right now I’m loving L’Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray.

Now go find a patio and enjoy a cocktail!

TGIF, beauties!!

One of my all time favourite things to do in life is to buy makeup. Unfortunately this habit isn't necessarily budget friendly at all times! Over the years I've started to pay a lot more attention to drugstore products that I have tried and fell in love with over re-purchasing the more expensive products from my beloved Sephora or Mac. Talkin' Highlighters

Today we're talking about that beautiful summer glow. Highlighters can be so universal and there are so many beautiful colours out there to play with to enhance your features and make them pop. I love a bright highlight paired with any look. Particularly in these hot summer months when the makeup looks get minimal, you can never go wrong with having glowing radiant skin any day of the week!

Wearing here: MAC "Soft and Gentle"

Some of my holy grail's...

Top 3 Highlighters {as of right now}
1. NARS "Albatross"
2. MAC "Soft and Gentle"
3. HARD CANDY "Tiki"

Where to apply:
I always apply my highlighters along the tops of my cheekbones and towards the temple, down the centre of the nose, and on the top op the cupid's bow. Applying this on your cupid's bow will make your lips look bigger and down your nose will help elongate! Most highlighters work really beautiful as an inner corner highlight as well as highlighting underneath the brow bone to make your eyes pop

Brushes I use...

Morphe Fan Brush M497 or Sigma F35 Tapered Highlighter for the tops of the cheeks
Realtechniques Setting Brush for the bridge of my nose and cupids bow

These babes will light up your life! All my boo's together!

Glowing Skin Tips: To give your skin an all over "glowing from within" prep your skin with a radiance primer and then mix your favourite illuminzer into your foundation! My current obsession is combining my L'Oreal True Match foundation with a few dabs of Benefit High Beam and then applying to the skin just like you would regularly!

Currently Craving...

The Balm "Mary Lou-Manizer"
Becca "Opal"
Laura Geller "Gilded Honey"
ColourPop "Lunch Money"

Happy Highlighting!

Sometimes we need to break before we shine."

'til next time,

Party Eyes

Good morning, beauties!
I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend and are enjoying your Sunday Funday - whether that be indulging in mimosas over brunch, {my personal fave} off on an adventure, or lounging around the house getting ready for another full week ahead! This morning is rainy and I'm enjoying a few cups of coffee on the couch with my little family. Last night we went out to celebrate a few Birthdays and I was so pleased with how my random makeup look turned out, I took a few extra minutes to grab a few pictures! Currently I'm using the Canon Rebel T31 with a broken lens. Long story short... it's a bit of a B to capture good makeup shots so when they turn out as well as they did from last night - I just have to share!

Get the eyes...

Primer: MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre {holy grail}
Transition: Anastasia Beverly Hills "Bengal"
Crease: Anastasia Beverly Hills "Sienna"
Lid: Anastasia Beverly Hills "Blush"
Shimmer: Colourpop Cosmetics "Amaze"
Liner: Maybelline Gel Liner in "Blackest Black" applied with a Sigma E11 eye liner brush
this brush is my absolute favourite for winged liner
Mascara: Estee Lauder Double Wear Lengthening Mascara
Lashes: House of Lashes in "Iconic"
Under Eye: "Sienna" + "Bengal"
Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in "Soft Brown"

Face:

Primer: MAC Strobe Cream for a subtle glow
Foundation: L'Oreal True Match
Concealer: Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose

Find the time...
the time to read
to smell the flowers
to paint your dreams
to have coffee with a friend
to learn a new craft
to write a letter
to bake a surprise cake
to go somewhere special
to REALLY be with the person you love
or even to do nothing for a while...

I'm bringing ---- back

Sometimes one of the best things about always buying and trying new products is going back to the old ones. As not only a makeup artist but a complete beauty product junkie, I am always anxious to buy and try out new product. I forget how much I love and appreciate certain items and without thinking, I just lock them away and rarely give them any attention.

This past week, however, as I am coming into the beautiful insanity that is WEDDING SEASON, I started deep cleaning all my products and beauty room. During this process, I discovered some of my old favourite products and I have fallen in love all over again! I thought I would share with you guys some of my all time favourites that I have brought back into my daily makeup routine, just in case you had forgotten about them too!

Benefit Hoola Bronzer - $36.00 online at Sephora
The most beautiful matte bronzing powder. Perfect shade for subtle contouring on us pale skinned ladies!

Benefit Rockateur Blush - $36.00 online at Sephora
Who doesn't love rose gold? I don't know a single person. This blush is ROSE GOLD. How could I leave this beauty behind? PERFECTION

L'Oreal True Match Foundation -  $13.98 at Walmart
This foundation was my favourite for years and somewhere along the way I got so wrapped up in my Revlon Nearly Naked and left this other affordable beauty behind. I have DRY and I mean DRYYYYY skin and sometimes I get so frustrated in foundations. When I started using this love again a few days ago I was so pleased with how easy is applied and how flawless the finish was. I'm literally obsessed all over again and I recommend anyone with dry skin to go buy this ....you're welcome

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer for Dark Circles - $10.96 at Walmart
I love concealer. I'm a concealing and highlighting freak. Also, do I not only have dry skin I have really bad dark circles. Don't you wish you had my skin? The struggle is real, my friends. This concealer glides on smooth, blends like a dream and keeps my dark circles concealed all day

L'Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner - $11.46 at Walmart
Super creamy for a pencil liner. If you want a dreamy smokey eye... pop this in your water line and smudge it out

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose - $5.97 at Walmart
I mean... anytime people preach a good dupe of a more expensive lipstick I'm pretty eager to try it. My favourite lipstick of all time is Mac's Angel. This lipstick was an apparent dupe for Angel and/or Snob {which I also own, but love much less} I have always loved this lipstick but I "lost" it in one of my bags and recently rediscovered it. It's a light blue toned pink that wears really well for almost 5 hours. Although this is not exact dupe to the more pricey Mac lip colours, it's just as beautiful!
